18+ FIQH OF MENSTRUATION & BEYOND
When Allah Speaks About the Body, and Humanity Learns Mercy
PART 1: BREAKING THE SILENCE WITH DIVINE LIGHT
INTRODUCTION: THE SILENCE THAT WAS NEVER FROM ALLAH
There are some topics that make people uncomfortable.
They lower their voice.
They change the subject.
They feel shy.
They say, “This should not be discussed.”
Menstruation is one of those topics.
For centuries, millions of women around the world have lived with pain — not only physical pain, but emotional pain, spiritual confusion, and social shame. Many girls experience their first menstruation with fear. Many women feel distant from Allah during those days. Many men grow up without understanding, and that ignorance later becomes cruelty, jokes, or emotional distance.
But let us say this clearly and loudly:
👉 Allah was never silent about menstruation.
👉 Islam was never shy about the human body.
👉 The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ never treated menstruation as shameful.
So where did the silence come from?
It came from culture.
It came from ignorance.
It came from fear of talking about the body.
This article is written to break that silence — with respect, with ilm, and with mercy.
This is an 18+ topic not because it is dirty, but because it is real. Islam does not believe in hiding reality. Islam believes in purifying reality through knowledge.
This article is for:
- women who felt spiritually broken during menstruation
- men who never understood this topic properly
- parents who want to teach their children correctly
- scholars, students, and seekers of truth
And above all, this article is for humanity.
Because when Islam explains menstruation, it explains how Allah looks at the human body.
WHY IS THIS TOPIC “18+” IN ISLAM?
Islam is not afraid of mature conversations.
Islam speaks openly about:
- marriage
- intimacy
- childbirth
- bleeding
- desire
- pain
- pleasure
But Islam teaches these topics with:
- dignity
- boundaries
- responsibility
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“Allah does not shy away from presenting the truth.”
(Surah Al-Ahzab 33:53 – meaning contextually)
Silence is not modesty.
Correct knowledge is modesty.
When adults do not talk about these topics, children learn from:
- the internet
- friends
- movies
- wrong sources
And that is where corruption begins.
So this article speaks — not to excite, but to educate.
SECTION 1: MENSTRUATION IN THE QUR’AN – ALLAH’S OWN WORDS
Allah Speaks First, Not Culture
Allah says in the Qur’an:
English
“They ask you about menstruation. Say: it is a discomfort. So keep away from women during menstruation and do not approach them until they are pure.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:222)
Urdu
“اور آپ سے حیض کے بارے میں پوچھتے ہیں۔ کہہ دیجیے کہ وہ تکلیف کی حالت ہے، پس حیض کے دوران عورتوں سے الگ رہو اور ان کے قریب نہ جاؤ یہاں تک کہ وہ پاک ہو جائیں۔”
Deep Reflection on This Verse
This verse begins with “They ask you”.
This means:
- people were asking
- people were curious
- people were confused
And Allah did not stop the question.
Allah answered.
Now look at the word Allah used:
👉 أَذًى (Adha)
This word means:
- pain
- discomfort
- harm
- difficulty
Allah did not say:
- najasah (filth)
- sin
- curse
This is revolutionary.
Allah defined menstruation as a physical condition, not a spiritual defect.
This verse teaches us something very deep:
👉 A woman’s body can be in pain, but her soul remains pure.
WHAT IS FORBIDDEN — AND WHY
Allah then says:
“Do not approach them until they are pure.”
This refers only to sexual intercourse.
Why?
Medical Wisdom (Very Simple)
Modern medical science confirms:
- the cervix is more open during menstruation
- risk of infection increases
- pain sensitivity increases
- hormonal imbalance occurs
Islam protected women 1400 years ago, before science explained it.
Islam did not say:
“Control women.”
Islam said:
“Protect women.”
SECTION 2: THE PROPHET ﷺ — THE LIVING QUR’AN
If menstruation was something dirty or shameful, the Prophet ﷺ would have avoided menstruating women.
But what did he actually do?
Hadith 1: Love Without Distance
English
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would place his head in my lap while I was menstruating and recite the Qur’an.”
(Sahih Bukhari)
Urdu
“رسول اللہ ﷺ میرا دامن اپنے سر کے نیچے رکھتے اور قرآن کی تلاوت فرماتے، حالانکہ میں حیض کی حالت میں ہوتی تھی۔”
Think Deeply
If menstruation made a woman spiritually impure:
- Qur’an would not be recited near her
- closeness would be avoided
But the Prophet ﷺ did the opposite.
This hadith alone destroys:
- shame
- isolation
- emotional distance
Hadith 2: Normalizing the Body
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Do everything except intercourse.”
(Sahih Muslim)
Islam did not ban:
- touching
- kissing
- hugging
- affection
Islam banned one act, for protection.
This is balance.
SECTION 3: WHAT IS FIQH — AND WHY MENSTRUATION IS CENTRAL TO IT
Fiqh means:
Understanding how Allah wants us to live — in real life.
Menstruation is:
- real
- painful
- emotional
- unpredictable
So Islam gave it clear rulings.
Not to make life hard.
But to remove guilt and confusion.
SECTION 4: BASIC DEFINITIONS (VERY EASY)
Hayd (Menstruation)
- Natural monthly bleeding
- A sign of health
- A sign of life
- Not a disease
- Not a sin
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“This is something Allah has written for the daughters of Adam.”
(Sahih Bukhari)
Menstruation is written by Allah.
So how can it be shameful?
Tuhr (Purity)
When bleeding stops:
- white discharge appears
- or dryness occurs
Then worship resumes.
Islam teaches women how to observe their bodies, not ignore them.
Nifas (Post-Childbirth Bleeding)
After childbirth, bleeding occurs.
Islam:
- removes prayer
- removes fasting
- gives rest
Because childbirth is trauma, not weakness.
Istihada (Irregular Bleeding)
Some women bleed due to:
- illness
- hormones
- stress
Islam does not punish them.
They pray.
They fast.
They live normally.
Allah does not punish sickness.
MEDICAL SCIENCE AGREES WITH ISLAM
Modern medicine confirms:
- hormonal changes
- emotional sensitivity
- physical weakness
- immune changes
Islam recognized this before laboratories existed.
This is not coincidence.
This is divine knowledge.
CLOSING OF PART 1: A TRUTH HUMANITY FORGOT
Menstruation is not:
❌ impurity
❌ weakness
❌ distance from Allah
It is:
✅ design
✅ mercy
✅ protection
Allah honored women.
Humans forgot.
18+ FIQH OF MENSTRUATION & BEYOND
PART 2: WORSHIP, PAIN, AND THE MERCY PEOPLE FORGOT
SECTION 5: SALAH AND MENSTRUATION — WHEN ALLAH COMMANDS REST
For many women, the most painful part of menstruation is not the cramps.
It is the feeling:
“I am not praying.”
“I am missing worship.”
“I feel far from Allah.”
Islam does not ignore this pain.
Islam answers it with mercy.
Why Salah Is Stopped During Menstruation
The Prophet ﷺ said:
English
“Is it not that when she menstruates, she does not pray and does not fast?”
(Sahih Bukhari)
Urdu
“کیا یہ حقیقت نہیں کہ جب عورت کو حیض آتا ہے تو وہ نہ نماز پڑھتی ہے اور نہ روزہ رکھتی ہے؟”
This is not criticism.
This is acknowledgment.
Allah knows:
- blood loss causes weakness
- pain distracts focus
- the body is already working hard
Salah requires:
- physical cleanliness
- physical stability
- focus
Allah did not say:
“Push yourself.”
Allah said:
“Rest.”
Why Prayers Are NOT Made Up Later
This is one of the most merciful rulings in Islam.
A woman may miss:
- 5 prayers a day
- for 5–7 days
- every month
That is hundreds of prayers.
If Allah wanted difficulty, He would say:
“Make them up.”
But He did not.
Why?
Because Islam is not about exhausting the body.
Islam is about protecting the servant.
The scholars said:
“Prayer is frequent, so making it up would be hardship. Fasting is yearly, so it is made up.”
This is fiqh with compassion.
A Powerful Spiritual Truth
If a woman:
- prayed regularly before menstruation
- intended to pray
Allah continues writing her reward.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“If a servant becomes sick or travels, Allah writes for him the reward of what he used to do when healthy.”
(Sahih Bukhari)
Menstruation is not illness — but the principle applies.
Allah judges intention, not just action.
SECTION 6: FASTING & MENSTRUATION — OBEDIENCE IN STOPPING
Ramadan is the most emotional time for many women.
The masjid is full.
The Qur’an is recited.
Taraweeh is prayed.
And a woman sits.
She feels:
- left out
- empty
- sad
Islam does not shame this feeling.
But Islam corrects the misunderstanding.
Qur’anic Principle
Allah says:
English
“Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:286)
Urdu
“اللہ کسی جان پر اس کی طاقت سے زیادہ بوجھ نہیں ڈالتا۔”
Stopping the fast is not weakness.
Stopping the fast is submission.
If Allah tells you to stop,
continuing would be disobedience.
Why Fasts Are Made Up Later
Because fasting is:
- once a year
- manageable to make up
Islam balances:
- physical ability
- spiritual continuity
Allah wants ease, not harm.
SECTION 7: QUR’AN, DHIKR, AND DUA — ALLAH NEVER CLOSED THE DOOR
One of the biggest lies women are told is:
“You can’t do anything religious during menstruation.”
This is false.
Let us be clear.
What Is Allowed Without Any Difference of Opinion
A menstruating woman can:
- make dua
- do dhikr
- send salawat on the Prophet ﷺ
- listen to Qur’an
- attend Islamic classes
- give charity
- help others
- cry to Allah
Allah says:
English
“Remember Me, and I will remember you.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:152)
Urdu
“تم مجھے یاد کرو، میں تمہیں یاد کروں گا۔”
Allah did not say:
“Except during menstruation.”
The Heart Is Always a Place of Worship
Worship is not only:
- standing
- bowing
- prostrating
Worship is also:
- patience
- acceptance
- surrender
A woman who says:
“Ya Allah, I accept Your command.”
Is worshipping.
SECTION 8: THE EMOTIONAL & HORMONAL REALITY (MEDICAL + ISLAM)
Islam does not deny emotions.
Islam acknowledges them.
Medical Science (Simple Explanation)
During menstruation:
- estrogen drops
- progesterone changes
- serotonin decreases
- fatigue increases
This causes:
- sadness
- irritability
- anxiety
- emotional sensitivity
Islam recognized this before science named hormones.
That is why:
- worship is reduced
- rest is commanded
- intimacy rules change
Islam and Emotional Mercy
The Prophet ﷺ never mocked women’s emotions.
He listened.
He cared.
He adjusted.
Islam does not say:
“Ignore your feelings.”
Islam says:
“Your feelings are real.”
SECTION 9: “I FEEL FAR FROM ALLAH” — A DANGEROUS MISUNDERSTANDING
Distance from Allah is not physical.
Distance from Allah is in the heart.
Allah says:
English
“We are closer to him than his jugular vein.”
(Surah Qaf 50:16)
Urdu
“ہم انسان سے اس کی شہ رگ سے بھی زیادہ قریب ہیں۔”
Allah does not move away.
We misunderstand.
A Woman’s Worth Is Not Her Ritual Count
Islam does not measure women by:
- how many rak‘ahs
- how many fasts
Islam measures:
- sincerity
- patience
- trust
Menstruation teaches a deep lesson:
You are loved even when you are still.
SECTION 10: A MESSAGE TO WOMEN (FROM ISLAM)
Dear sister,
When you sat while others prayed,
Allah saw you.
When you cried quietly,
Allah heard you.
When you felt empty,
Allah did not leave you.
Allah does not love you less during menstruation.
Allah may love you more —
because you are obeying Him by resting.
CLOSING OF PART 2: A MERCY WRAPPED IN BLOOD
Menstruation is not a barrier to Allah.
Ignorance is.
Menstruation is not spiritual loss.
Shame is.
Islam came to heal bodies and hearts.
18+ FIQH OF MENSTRUATION & BEYOND
PART 3: INTIMACY, MARRIAGE, AND THE MERCY PEOPLE MISUNDERSTOOD
SECTION 11: MENSTRUATION & INTIMACY — WHAT IS HARAM AND WHY
Islam is very clear, very honest, and very protective when it comes to intimacy.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
English
“So keep away from women during menstruation and do not approach them until they are pure.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:222)
Urdu
“پس حیض کے دنوں میں عورتوں سے الگ رہو اور ان کے قریب نہ جاؤ یہاں تک کہ وہ پاک ہو جائیں۔”
What Does “Do Not Approach” Mean?
Islamic scholars — unanimously — explained:
👉 This only refers to sexual intercourse.
It does not mean:
- emotional distance
- physical isolation
- treating her as untouchable
Islam forbade one act — not love.
Why Intercourse Is Haram During Menstruation
Islamic Wisdom
- Protection of the woman
- Respect for physical pain
- Maintaining dignity
Medical Wisdom (Simple Language)
Modern medicine confirms:
- higher risk of infection
- increased pain sensitivity
- open cervix increases complications
- hormonal imbalance affects consent comfort
Islam protected women before medical science explained it.
This is not restriction.
This is care.
SECTION 12: WHAT IS HALAL — AND WHY ISLAM IS NOT COLD
Many people think:
“Islam forbids intimacy during menstruation.”
This is half truth — and half truth is dangerous.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
English
“Do everything except intercourse.”
(Sahih Muslim)
Urdu
“ہم بستری کے علاوہ سب کچھ کر سکتے ہو۔”
This hadith is very important.
Islam allows:
- closeness
- affection
- touch
- comfort
- emotional intimacy
Islam does not want:
- emotional abandonment
- coldness
- distance
The Prophetic Example in Marriage
The Prophet ﷺ:
- sat close to his wives
- rested beside them
- showed love
- showed patience
A husband who withdraws completely during menstruation is not following the Sunnah.
The Sunnah is:
More mercy, not less.
SECTION 13: EMOTIONAL NEEDS DURING MENSTRUATION (VERY IMPORTANT)
Menstruation is not just physical.
It is emotional.
Many women feel:
- unattractive
- sensitive
- insecure
- easily hurt
Islam does not ignore this.
The Husband’s Responsibility in Islam
A husband is commanded to be:
- gentle
- patient
- understanding
Allah says:
English
“Live with them in kindness.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:19)
Urdu
“اور ان کے ساتھ اچھے طریقے سے زندگی بسر کرو۔”
Kindness does not pause during menstruation.
It increases.
A Powerful Truth
Islam never gave men permission to:
- shame women
- pressure women
- guilt women
Desire never comes before mercy in Islam.
SECTION 14: CULTURAL LIES THAT DAMAGED WOMEN
Let us speak clearly.
Many things people believe about menstruation are not Islam.
They are culture.
Common Lies vs Islamic Truth
❌ “Menstruating women are impure”
✅ Islam says the condition is physical, not spiritual
❌ “She should stay away from everyone”
✅ The Prophet ﷺ stayed close
❌ “Talking about this is shameful”
✅ Allah talked about it in the Qur’an
Culture created fear.
Islam created clarity.
SECTION 15: SHAME — THE REAL ENEMY OF FAITH
Shame makes women:
- hide knowledge
- feel dirty
- feel distant from Allah
Islam never taught shame.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.”
(Ibn Majah)
This includes knowledge about the body.
What Shame Does to the Soul
Shame:
- pushes women away from masjid
- breaks confidence
- damages self-worth
Islam came to heal, not to wound.
SECTION 16: MENSTRUATION & MODESTY — THE REAL DEFINITION
Modesty in Islam is not silence.
Modesty is:
- correct words
- correct intention
- correct boundaries
Islam teaches us:
You can speak about anything — with adab.
This article is proof.
SECTION 17: MENSTRUATION AND SPIRITUAL IDENTITY
A woman is not:
- less religious
- less pure
- less worthy
Allah says:
English
“The most honored of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous.”
(Surah Al-Hujurat 49:13)
Urdu
“اللہ کے نزدیک تم میں سب سے زیادہ عزت والا وہ ہے جو سب سے زیادہ پرہیزگار ہے۔”
Righteousness is not measured by blood.
It is measured by heart.
SECTION 18: A MESSAGE TO MEN (VERY DIRECT)
Dear brother,
Allah honored women before you were born.
If you:
- mock
- shame
- pressure
You are not following Islam.
You are following ignorance.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best of you are the best to their families.”
(Tirmidhi)
Your character shows your faith.
CLOSING OF PART 3: WHERE ISLAM STOOD — AND WHERE WE FAILED
Islam spoke clearly.
The Prophet ﷺ demonstrated mercy.
Allah protected women.
Humans failed to listen.
But it is never too late to correct.
18+ FIQH OF MENSTRUATION & BEYOND
PART 4: HEALING GENERATIONS, ANSWERING REAL QUESTIONS, AND A MESSAGE TO HUMANITY
SECTION 19: TEACHING GIRLS — THE FIRST LESSON SHAPES A LIFETIME
The first time a girl experiences menstruation, something very deep happens.
Not only in her body —
but in her identity.
If she is taught with:
- fear
- shame
- silence
She learns:
“Something is wrong with me.”
But if she is taught with:
- knowledge
- calm
- iman
She learns:
“Allah designed me.”
How Islam Wants Girls to Be Taught
A girl should be told:
- This is from Allah
- This does not make you dirty
- This does not reduce your value
- This does not push Allah away
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Every child is born upon fitrah.”
(Sahih Bukhari)
Shame is not fitrah.
Knowledge is.
A Mother’s Amanah
Mothers must:
- speak clearly
- answer questions
- explain fiqh gently
Silence creates fear.
Fear damages faith.
SECTION 20: TEACHING BOYS — RESPECT BEGINS WITH KNOWLEDGE
Boys are often excluded from this topic.
And then society is shocked when men:
- mock
- misunderstand
- lack empathy
Islam does not raise ignorant men.
Islam raises aware men.
Why Boys Must Learn This
So they:
- respect women
- become better husbands
- become compassionate fathers
The Prophet ﷺ never hid knowledge from men.
Respect is ibadah.
SECTION 21: MEDICAL CONDITIONS & FIQH — WHEN THE BODY DOES NOT FOLLOW A TEXTBOOK
Not every woman has a “normal” cycle.
Some women suffer from:
- PCOS
- endometriosis
- hormonal imbalance
- stress-related bleeding
- effects of birth control
Islam does not say:
“Suffer in silence.”
Islam says:
“We will make it easy.”
Islamic Principle
Allah says:
English
“Allah wants ease for you, not hardship.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185)
Urdu
“اللہ تمہارے لیے آسانی چاہتا ہے، تنگی نہیں۔”
If bleeding is not menstruation (istihada):
- a woman prays
- fasts
- lives normally
Islam does not punish illness.
Medicine + Fiqh = Balance
Doctors explain the body.
Fiqh explains worship.
Islam respects both.
SECTION 22: COMMON REAL QUESTIONS (18+) — ANSWERED WITH HONESTY
Q1: Can intimacy happen immediately after periods?
Only after bleeding fully stops and purity is achieved. Islam protects health and dignity.
Q2: What if bleeding is confusing?
Islam teaches certainty over doubt. Seek knowledge. Allah does not trap His servants.
Q3: What if I feel guilty every month?
Guilt comes from misunderstanding. Allah never blamed you.
Q4: What if doctors and fiqh differ?
Islam considers medical knowledge while preserving worship principles.
SECTION 23: MENSTRUATION & SPIRITUAL GROWTH — A HIDDEN GIFT
Menstruation teaches lessons many people never learn.
It teaches:
- patience
- surrender
- humility
- trust
Allah says:
English
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”
(Surah Ash-Sharh 94:6)
Urdu
“بے شک ہر تنگی کے ساتھ آسانی ہے۔”
Even blood carries wisdom.
SECTION 24: BEYOND MENSTRUATION — A MESSAGE FOR ALL HUMANITY
If humanity understood menstruation correctly:
- women would not be shamed
- men would not dominate
- bodies would be honored
- religion would feel merciful
Menstruation teaches us:
- rest is sacred
- limits are mercy
- bodies are a trust
- Allah understands humans
Islam is not anti-body.
Islam is pro-human.
SECTION 25: THE BIGGEST LIE WE MUST UNLEARN
The biggest lie is:
“Your value comes from constant performances.”
Islam says:
Your value comes from being Allah’s servant.
Sometimes worship is movement.
Sometimes worship is stillness.
Both are obedience.
FINAL MESSAGE TO WOMEN
Dear sister,
You were never dirty.
You were never distant.
You were never less.
Allah designed you.
Allah understands you.
Allah honors you.
Your menstruation is not a failure.
It is a sign of life.
FINAL MESSAGE TO MEN
Dear brother,
If you honor women, you honor Allah’s creation.
If you mock them, you mock Allah’s wisdom.
Your iman shows in how you treat women.
FINAL CONCLUSION: A DIVINE PAUSE, NOT A DISGRACE
Menstruation is not:
❌ impurity
❌ shame
❌ spiritual loss
It is:
✅ mercy
✅ design
✅ protection
Allah spoke.
The Prophet ﷺ demonstrated.
Islam clarified.
Now it is humanity’s turn to listen.
If this article:
- healed one heart
- corrected one belief
- brought one soul closer to Allah
Then Alhamdulillah.
Because Islam never came to break humans.
It came to carry them gently back to Allah.
